Yılmaz Atadeniz Obituary-Death; Yeşilçam’s Master Director Yılmaz Atadeniz Has Passed Away.

At the age of 91, award-winning filmmaker Yılmaz Atadeniz, whose works have left a lasting impact on Turkish cinema, passed away.

Releasing the sad news on social media, actor Zafer Algöz stated,

‘We lost our brother Yılmaz Atadeniz, the director of Yeşilçam who made interesting films. He shared the message “May God have mercy on him.”

“Atadeniz was also the director of the ‘Ugly King’ films for which Yılmaz Güney became famous.”

Throughout his artistic career, Atadeniz wrote the screenplays for 34 films in addition to serving as director for over 100 films.

Yılmaz Atadeniz, a renowned director who has been involved in Turkish cinema for over 60 years, was born in Istanbul in 1932 and has also worked as a screenwriter and producer.

He completed his primary and secondary education at Bebek and Gazi Osman Paşa schools, and his high school education at Kabataş Boys’ High School.

With the support of his elder brother Orhan Atadeniz, Atadeniz entered the film industry in 1951 and held roles including assistant director and editor.

He first worked alongside Yeşilçam veterans Faruk Kenç, Atıf Yılmaz, Nejat Saydam, and Sırrı Gültekin before filming “Yedi Kocalı Hürmüz,” his debut feature film, in 1963. Hollywood also customized science fiction and Western movies for Yeşilçam, even though Turkey lacked the requisite tools and technology at the time.

He has created more than a hundred pieces of art since 1963.
