Video Of Man Dumping Trash At Gateway Of India Goes Viral; BMC Fines Rs 10,000

Viral Video: A man recently made headlines for all the wrong reasons after his video of dumping trash at the Gateway of India in Mumbai went viral on the internet. The cameraperson recording the clip rushed into action and shared every required detail on his social media handle, along with tagging the Mumbai authorities. The said video soon went viral and received a lot of backlash from the netizens. The video then also came to the notice of the authorities, after which the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ended up imposing Rs 10,000 on the said man. 

The post was shared on the social media site X (formerly Twitter) by the user ‘jituk9’. the post was captioned, “How can somebody openly throw #garbage at a heritage site in #Mumbai Gateway opposite Taj Mahal Palace hotel, shame on @MumbaiPolice @mybmcWardA to not enforce law & maintain basic discipline. Taxi MH01RT6720, Is this how u control #MumbaiPollution@Dev_Fadnavis @mumbaimatterz?”

Taking tone of the matter, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) responded to the post and assured of action as it later imposed a fine of Rs 10000 on the man responsible for dumping in the sea. “No tolerance for such dumping of garbage! @mybmcWardA took action, fining the offender Rs.10,000. Civic discipline is the key! Respect public spaces, keep Mumbai clean,” BMC’s comment read. 

As soon as the post was shared online, people began to react to it and made it go viral. Most netizens condemned the man for their actions, while others chastised the lack of security at such places. Some also lauded the BMC’s quick response, while others dubbed such incidents common. The post was shared two days ago and pulled 753K views from people.

Taking to the comment box, people shared their take. “Hope somebody will take this seriously and save Mumbai,” a user said. “Why is the offender’s name hidden?” asked another. “You tagged so many authorities but no reply from their side,” said a third. “I’m used to such ignorance over the years, they don’t care even if the public name & shame them,” added a fourth. “This is extremely common at Gateway,” said a fifth person. “Thy Shd be identified and booked,” said a sixth person. 

“This shameful act of these people is possible only with the support of BMC & Police. Why is no one from BMC & Police present there to stop them? This has to be investigated and action be taken for dereliction of duty,” said another.
