According to a police press release released on Monday, Nafees Biryani, a close associate and financier of the late criminal Atiq Ahmad, passed dead on Sunday night while receiving care at Swaroop Rani Nehru (SRN) Hospital.
Nafees Biryani was being held at Naini Central Jail under judicial custody, according to the official statement. But on Sunday night, the jail administration admitted him to SRN Hospital because of his failing condition.
The news release added that Nafees died while receiving treatment, and that initial medical findings point to a myocardial infarction, or heart attack.

Nafees Biryani was a wanted man in the Umesh Pal triple murder case, with a Rs 50,000 reward on his head. The official statement states that on November 22, 2023, he was captured after a police encounter.

Postmortem and panchayatnama procedures are presently under progress, as said in the official release. Nafees had arrived at the hospital complaining of dyspnea, according to SP Singh, the principal of SRN Hospital, who spoke with ANI earlier on Sunday. The principal of the hospital further disclosed that Nafees was experiencing irregular blood pressure, kidney problems, and unstable oxygen saturation levels even with extra care.

On April 15, at a hospital in Prayagraj, gangsters Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were shot and killed by attackers posing as journalists.

The district court has placed the three attackers, Arun Maurya, Sunny Singh, and Lovelesh Tiwari, under judicial detention.
Atiq Ahmad was charged with the 2005 murder of Raju Pal, a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), and the February 2018 murder of Umesh Pal, a crucial witness in that case.C
