Young Footballer James McCaffrey Passes Away Days Before 18th Birthday
The community is grieving the loss of 17-year-old James McCaffrey of Portadown, who died unexpectedly just days shy of his 18th birthday. The promising young footballer’s death was confirmed in a social media post by his club TírnanÓg GFC.
A Formidable Forward Gone Too Soon
Per the post, James, affectionately called “Frank the Tank” by teammates, was a key player on TírnanÓg GFC’s championship-winning U14 and U16 teams thanks to his skills as a forward. As the club wrote, “Frank always had a smile and a twinkle in his eye and provided the craic on many an away day with his team”.
James brought joy both on and off the pitch with his laidback and kind personality. News of his untimely passing has shaken the community and especially his football club.
